Wow, the artwork displayed last week was exceptional! As someone who can't draw a stick figure, I was impressed (although I did see a few kindred spirits ;-)
This week: You should have your TaskStream account by now. You will need to self-enroll in the multiple-subject program for TaskStream (CODE: ZNJ5MR). Please enroll ASAP, as I will have you all put in my course, which is completed by another professor. Also, we will discuss the use of Google Docs and spreadsheets and the PowerPoint assignment! I hope you are all noticing that you should always have something that you can be working on for this course. If you can maintain this type of flow, you should have no trouble finishing all your assignments. As an old principal of mine used to tell me, "It's not a sprint, it's a marathon."
Journal 2: There is a very interesting article in the current (Feb 2008) issue of L&L surrounding the use of technology for a math class with many ELs. The article, "Speaking Math: Using Chat in the Multicultural Math Classroom", by Janet Graham and Ted Hodgson, can be downloaded with an ISTE account. You should all have had enough time to join ISTE by now :-) From the ISTE site, you will go to L&L and it should be the current issue displayed. If you are signed in, you will be able to download a PDF of the article.
This week's question: Of all of your personal technology tools (computer, cell phone, GPS, Wii, etc.), which one could you not live without, which one would you give up if you had to choose one? Explain.

Since I do not have a GPS or any sort of game system of any sort, I guess my choice is between my phone and my computer. I think that, given those two choices I would have to say that I could not live without my computer (if only because of all of the school stuff that I have to do online). So, although I am one of those people who feels really whacked out if I leave the house without my phone, I would have to give up my cell phone.
Without a doubt it would be my computer! So much of what I do on a daily basis involves it and I find my self searching for someone else's if I'm out of town so I can stay connected. On the other hand my cell phone is both a blessing and a curse at the same time. My phone rings for attention when I wished it wouldn't so I could certainly be ok without it. (for a while of course ;-)
I definitely could not do without my computer. So much is connected to computer usage. All of my classwork, wedding planning, and keeping in contact with so many people in both ofthese areas and so many more. I really would find it hard to give up any of my tech gadgets but if forced too I guess it would have to be our WII. My partner and I are addicted but with school and the wedding find it harder and harder to find time, so I guess that would be the easiest.
I agree with my classmates, I could not live w/o my computer (laptop w/ wireless capability). But I would consider a iphone only if I could afford it and test drive it for a week to see first-hand what the iphone could do to replace my laptop.
Personally, it would be the computer. I do everything on it from personal finance to work stuff, to communications with family and friends. One thing I could definitely live without is my husband's Xbox! Ok, so technically that's not mine so I'd have to say GPS. I can read maps and directions the "old fashioned" way just fine! But GPS sure is handy.
I would not be able to give up my computer. I rely on it for my job and my small business. I don't want to go back to the old days without them. On the other hand, I could easily give up my cell phone. I never answer it, and I don't know how to retrieve the messages, so it just gets me in trouble anyway...
As much as I say I could not live without my cell phone and text messaging for that matter, I most definitely think that it would be impossible for me to get by without my computer! It has everything! I would still be able to communicate with people PLUS I would still be able to search for things (which I do often... how else would I have figured out how to get super glue off my fingers!), and go shopping which is always fun, listen to music, and last, but not least, it allows me to do ED422 homework!!
I would struggle if I couldn't live with a cell phone. There's just not many pay phones around these days. I don't even know if 1-800-Collect still exists. I never see commercials for it. If I had too, I could part with my television and xbox.
I don't have much technology except my computer and cell phone-can I make my boys give up their playstation? Having kids (and one with health concerns) I am very dependent on my cell phone-I guess I'd have to try giving up my computer and using my phone to get online!
I guess, like most people, the thing that I couldn not love without is my computer. But of all the gadgets that I own (I don't have GPS), the one I could most easily give up is my MP4 player. It's great, it
s fun, but I don't actually use it that often.
I could not live without by cell phone. It is my lifeline to my family in Ohio. If I had to choose between by phone and the computer I could get by without the computer. I am very reliant on by phone and keeping in touch through it.

I guess if I had to make a decision I would not be able to live without my computer. I definately do my fair share of emailing and surfing the web, but the real reason I wouldn't give it up is because it is the keeper of my music collection--and I am just too attached. On the flip side, if I had to give up one of my gadgets I guess it would have to be my cell phone. Don't get me wrong I do love having a cell phone, but sometimes it is too much of a distraction and I think that it would be easier not to have it.
It would be easy to give up my MP3 player but to make it a little more difficult I would have to pick between my cell phone and computer. I would have to pick my cell phone. I can get internet on my cell phone which makes the decision easy. My cell phone keeps me connected to my family and friends and without that I would be lost.
Like others,I could not live without my cell phone. Because my husband and I are rarely in the same place at the same time, it is our main source of communication. I use my computer a lot as well, but the only things really valuable that I keep on it are pictures of my kids. I have those backed up on my pen drive so it would be ok if I had to give it up.
In all reality I would like to give them all up, go live in a cabin in the moutains and have running water and a wood burning stove as the most technologically advanced things I own. But I guess since I just bought a computer I would keep that, you can chuck the rest!!
I probably couldn't live without my personal computer (email, information, writing)...the cell could go and I really wouldn't care. Like I was telling Aaron,..."its just a super slippery thing you have to have in one of your pockets for 360 days a year, and not lose."
For me, the computer and the cell phone are two things that I use on a daily basis and need! But, since I have to choose, I would have to say the computer because it has multiple uses!!
I have to give something up it would have to say, the Wii. I like to play the Wi,but it is definetly something I don't do everyday.
I could live without all my devices to be perfectly honest with you. I hate to say it but my life would be less busy
I could not live without my computer. It seems like I am constantly browsing the Internet, playing computer games, and writing reports using Word. If I had to give up some technological device, I guess I would choose my cell phone (I don't have GPS or a current game system (I have N64!!!!) so I cannot give up one of them). I would give up my cell phone because I really only use it for emergencies anyways. And, if I need to get in touch with someone I still have my home phone. :)
I really cant live without my cell phone. With your cell home you can pretty much get everything. Its sad to say but my life revolves around having my phone. I am so lost without it. I can get all my emails, navagation, and internet use from my phone.

I do not have a working computer at the moment, so that would be easy to give up. However, I use a computer every day for homework, looking for work and communicating with friends. I hate to admit that I would be lost without my phone. I do not have a house phone, so my cell phone is the only way for people to get in touch with me. I talk on the phone more than I would like to admit.
Like most other people I would say that I could not live without my computer. I need it for school and I like to use it everyday by going online. On the other hand I would love to get rid of my cell phone. I am so reliant on it, yet if I could I would love to not have it around anymore.
I don't have a GPS or game system, either, so it's between the computer and the cellphone. I couldn't live without my computer. The research I can do on the computer, the access to my bank, other accounts and the shopping! I could easily give up my cell phone for the computer.
I only have access to a personal computer and a cell phone. Of the two, I could live without a cell phone. I desperately need my computer fix, both for school and for fun. I only have the cell phone to coordinate pick ups for my daughters at school. I feel the phone is a bother becuase I always misplace it and I always forget to recharge it at night. Phones are also annoying becuase you can barely hear the person you're speaking to, and I always seem to get cut-off.
I think throwing my cell phone into a lake is something i should do anyway. when i think of all that i use computers for, it is hard to picture life without them.
I only have a cell phone and computers, unless you count the addition of the DVR feature. With kids, I rely on the cell phone for security, emergencies and to keep up with everyone's schedules. I couldn't live without that. I could ditch the computer for a time. I miss old-fashioned letters and research and going to the library and being able to get my kid's attention the first time I call for them :).
I would have to say my cell phone. I do not have a computer at the moment, but I use internet frequently. I am very close to my family and we talk on the phone constantly. They are my support network and help to keep me sane. Unfortunately, I do not have an ipod or any other innovation, though I am saving up.
